New Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Campus
In August, more than 1,700 students helped us usher in a new era of health science education built to encourage the kinds of critical thinking and cross-discipline collaboration that are redefining today’s healthcare environment.
The $65 million Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences campus at Greenfield Corporate Center features the latest in technology and flexible spaces that provide integrated learning. More than 300,000 square feet of advanced learning space unites students, faculty and administration at one location for the first time in 15 years.
The new campus includes 27 high-tech classrooms, 400 auditorium seats, a variety of dining options, a health and wellness suite, a fitness center and a conference center.
PA College is providing a new campus environment for over 1600 students - one that supports collaboration and critical thinking.
One of the stars is the Center for Excellence in Practice, a 20,000-square-foot space devoted to cross discipline simulations. The center includes 18 clinical learning spaces with 40 beds; home care and radiography suites; an operating room; sonography and respiratory therapy labs; and a simulation hospital. Work with simulation technology, including 22 mannequin-like high-fidelity simulators, can be recorded for debriefing in nearby conference rooms.
Created as part of Lancaster General Hospital’s original mission to train nurses who would care for the “sick and suffering,” the college still delivers education that benefits our community more than 100 years later. Instead of a single nursing program, we now offer 14 in multiple health science disciplines.
Since 2009, the college has focused on adding programs that help students match their skills with changes in health care delivery, whether that’s through professional certification or a master’s degree.
Among our new students when classes started in August were the first enrollees in a three-year BSN program—the first of its kind in Pennsylvania.
The college is also expanding on its legacy of workforce development, with the LG Health/Penn Medicine partnership providing new clinical training sites and another pipeline to high-quality jobs. Students also complete field work at other local health care facilities.
A GREEN CAMPUS
The campus offers options that support student health and wellness, but it also was built with an eye toward environmental health. Green features include:
- LED, motion-controlled lighting
- High-efficiency heat and air-conditioning systems
- Water conservation plumbing, such as low-flow toilets, sinks and fountains
- 37 water refill stations to reduce disposable bottle use
- 6 electric vehicle charging stations
- More than 100 newly planted trees and shrubs
